The shelter was erected on a narrow end against the reaction frame in order to test the door assembly.

Impact Testing

 

Missle Shot I - 70 mph

The missle impacted the center of the door producing 1/2 in. of deformation.  The area had no other remarkable damage.

Missile Shot II - 68 mph

The missile impacted the bottom of the door producing a 1/2 in. of deformation.  The door was not opened and there was no other remarkable damage.

 

Missile Shot III - 70 mph

The missile impacted the back left corner of the door producing 1/2 in. of deformation.  Upon opening the door it was discovered that the two roller bearings had been shattered b y the missile impact and pieces of the wheels deposited into the safe compartment.  It was unknown which missile impact produced the damaged wheels.

The shattered wheels constituted a test failure.  It was recommended that the manufacturere replace the roller bearing type wheels with solid steel non- bearing wheels.
